Visual Arts (AVI3M)

This course is designed to enhance students' understanding and abilities in visual arts. It encourages students to employ the creative process to investigate various themes via studio activities. These activities might include drawing, painting, sculpting, printmaking, and creating collages, as well as multimedia and emerging technology-based artworks. Students will also learn to apply critical analysis techniques to assess both their own artistic creations and those of others. The delivery of the course can be in the form of a comprehensive visual arts program or through a specialized focus on specific art forms, such as photography, video production, computer graphics, or information design.

Program

Unit One: Drawing(25 Hours)

This unit guides students through an understanding of design elements and principles, including the study of the color wheel, and teaches them how to produce impactful art pieces. The course will cover implementing the creative process, employing juxtaposition, and developing a storyboard. Additionally, students will engage in thoughtful discussions about the distinctions among different art movements and schools.

Unit Two: Art history(25 Hours)

In this segment, students will delve into a range of artistic movements and historical periods, including the Renaissance, Baroque, and Romanticism. They will explore artworks from diverse global regions and undertake independent research on various art forms.

Unit Three: Photography (25 Hours)

This unit covers the technical, imaginative, visual, and historical aspects of photography. Students will showcase their proficiency with photo editing software and various photo editing methods. They will learn to identify and differentiate various photography styles and will be taught how to create multi-exposure photographs.

Unit Four: Digital Media(25 Hours)

This unit focuses on how digital media integrates into daily life. Students will engage in creating their own website and a music video, and will also experiment with digital sculpting as a contemporary art medium.

Rich Summative Task (10 Hours)

For this unit, students are tasked with creating an artwork that embodies the full spectrum of skills and concepts acquired throughout this course, effectively addressing all the course expectations.

Student Resources Needed:

  • A laptop or desktop computer, ideally with Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox as the web browser.
  • A reliable and stable internet connection.
  • Tools for video recording and scanning handwritten assignments, such as a mobile phone, tablet, iPad, or webcam.
  • Access to Pixlr Photo Editor.
  • Gimp software.
  • Wix for website creation.
  • Blender for digital sculpting and 3D modeling.
  • Note: The course is conducted entirely online and does not require the use of any textbooks.
