Media Arts (ASM3M)

This course is dedicated to enhancing students' media arts skills by creating artworks using both traditional and cutting-edge technologies, tools, and methods, including new media, computer animation, and web-based platforms. The curriculum includes an exploration of how media arts have evolved as a natural progression from traditional art forms. Students will employ the creative process to craft impactful media art works and engage in critical analysis of the distinct features of media arts. Additionally, the course will delve into the influence of media artists in molding public views on identity, culture, and societal values.

Program

Unit One: Adobe Photoshop CS6 (25 Hours)

This unit introduces students to Adobe Photoshop and its array of features. They will explore and articulate various elements and methods used in photography, including the role of colors, contrast, and brightness, the use of different filters, special effects, layer management, text, and drawing tools. Additionally, students will learn how these elements can be systematically arranged following a principle of media arts.

Unit Two: Adobe Illustrator CS6 (25 Hours)

This segment focuses on Adobe Illustrator, where students will become acquainted with its various tools and their functionalities. They will engage in designing and creating unique media artworks, utilizing fundamental drawing and coloring tools, along with special effects. Additionally, the course includes learning about different tool icons and exploring the concept of printer's marks.

Unit Three: Adobe InDesign CS6 (25 Hours)

In this unit, students will delve into the functionalities of Adobe InDesign. They will explore an extensive array of tools and techniques available in InDesign, utilizing these to create effective and professional-grade designs.

Unit Four: Adobe Acrobat X (25 Hours)

In this unit, students will gain insights into Adobe Acrobat and its features. They will learn and articulate the skills and knowledge acquired through creative and critical analysis in media arts. This includes creating, editing, and exporting PDF files. Furthermore, students will elaborate on how these skills can be applied in various aspects of daily life.

Rich Summative Task (10 Hours)

During this unit, students are tasked with producing a project that showcases the array of skills they have developed throughout this course.

  • A laptop or desktop computer, ideally with Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox as the web browser.
  • A consistent and stable internet connection.
  • Facilities for video recording and scanning handwritten work, such as a mobile phone, tablet, iPad, or webcam.
