This course equips students with the ability to create media art pieces, focusing on both cutting-edge media like digital animation and traditional mediums including film, photography, video, and visual arts. Furthermore, the course teaches students about ethical practices associated with the creative process. The primary goal is to provide students with the necessary skills for producing and analyzing media artworks.

Program

Unit One: Media Arts (25 Hours)

This section of the course allows students to display their grasp of various concepts in media arts, including graphic design and digital media. Students will use these design concepts to creatively modify a piece from one of the collaborative arts. The course covers both traditional and modern technologies and methods, empowering students to craft compelling media art pieces.

Furthermore, the course addresses the ethical and legal aspects of media arts. Students will learn to use the right technologies and methods effectively to design and showcase media art pieces that cater to a wide range of viewers.

Unit Two: Photography (25 Hours)

In this segment, students dive into the creation and fine-tuning of media artworks, with a special emphasis on digital photography. They'll engage in a process that includes experimenting, receiving feedback from classmates and instructors, and introspective analysis. A key aspect of the unit will be understanding the distinct qualities and artistic values of both color and black-and-white photography.

The module provides an introduction to fundamental photography skills, focusing on correct camera usage, proficient techniques for capturing images, comprehending the subjects of their photographs, and exploring different photographic methods.

Unit Three: Photoshop (25 Hours)

This module guides students through the use of appropriate technology and methods to develop essential photo editing skills, with a focus on key Photoshop tools. Students will learn to recognize different phases of both creative and critical evaluation processes. They'll also become proficient in accurately using media arts terminology, relevant to both the creation and critique of media artworks.

A central feature of this unit is the exploration of creating photo-manipulated images using Photoshop. Students will apply key principles to alter an existing piece from one of the collaborative arts, enhancing their understanding and application of photo manipulation techniques.

Unit Four: Video Making and Editing (25 Hours)

During this unit, students will reflect on and assess their own skills and passions, particularly in relation to career paths in media art's design, production, distribution, or management aspects. They will learn to convey their unique messages by producing and showcasing videos, utilizing diverse methods and approaches.

Additionally, this course equips students to maintain a detailed log of their creative process in both the production and presentation of a media artwork. This includes the use of a tracking mechanism that aligns with the medium or media used in their specific project.

RST (10 Hours)

The RST accounts for 30% of the final grade. In this section, students will engage in developing a Wix website, which will act as their personal portfolio. This website will display their entire collection of work from the beginning of the course, establishing them as proficient photographers. The assignment includes the creation of a promotional advertisement for their photography services. Students are expected to integrate elements from all previously covered units to effectively articulate and market their skills and artistic works.

  • A laptop or desktop computer, preferably with Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox installed.
  • Access to video recording and scanning tools for handwritten work, such as a mobile phone, tablet, iPad, or webcam.
  • A stable internet connection.
  • A digital camera, smartphone, or another device capable of taking pictures.
  • Microsoft Word or a similar word processing software.
  • Microsoft PowerPoint or an equivalent presentation tool.
  • Adobe Photoshop.
