This course is designed to familiarize students with the use of information and communication technology in a business environment, laying the groundwork for navigating a digitally-driven world. It covers practical skills in various applications such as word processing, spreadsheet management, database usage, desktop publishing, and presentation creation. The curriculum also stresses the importance of digital fluency, effective internet research methods, and competent digital communication, alongside a consideration of the broader effects of information and communication technology in modern society.

Program

Unit One: Digital Literacy and Ethics (20 Hours)

This unit focuses on students' understanding of their digital footprint and internet behaviors. It involves learning key terminology in information and communication technology and developing skills in managing computer workstation environments. Students will also learn to organize electronic files and folders efficiently, evaluate different internet access methods, and apply advanced techniques for conducting electronic research.

Unit Two: Productivity Software (20 Hours)

This unit is centered on enhancing students' skills in various software applications. It includes hands-on learning with web-page design software and internet search engines. Students will also have the opportunity to assess and improve their data entry abilities throughout this module.

Unit Three: Design Software (20 Hours)

This unit involves students in activities that enhance their communication skills using electronic tools. They will learn about email functionalities, delve into different aspects of electronic communication, and use their newly developed skills to create a digital presentation.

Unit Four: Business Communication(20 Hours)

This unit aims to improve students' abilities in sourcing information electronically. It focuses on setting parameters for assessing the quality of online information, covering aspects like accuracy, bias, relevance, privacy, and timeliness. Students will also become familiar with various types of internet connections and the potential risks involved in information transmission. Moreover, they will utilize their research and critical analysis skills to study the business and communication customs of a particular culture, ultimately applying these insights to various communication formats.

Unit Five: Ethics and Issues in Information Technology (20 Hours)

This unit is focused on students demonstrating their grasp of the legal, social, and ethical aspects of information and communication technology. They will explore the challenges of privacy and security in the digital realm and assess the effects of information and communication technology on individual health and environmental well-being.

RST (10 hours)

The RST accounts for 20% of the overall grade.

  • Access to video recording and scanning handwritten work (via mobile phone, tablet, iPad, webcams).
